Request a Bush Fire Attack Level (BAL) Assessment

If you're developing in a bush fire prone area, you may need to submit additional information with your Development Application.

If you're planning a Local or Complying Development in a bush fire prone area (BAL-29, BAL-19, BAL-12.5 or BAL-LOW), it's likely you'll need to submit a Bush Fire Attack Level (BAL) Certificate with your Development Application.

You can use our online tools to check whether your property is bush fire prone and apply for a BAL Assessment to get a BAL Certificate.

Step 1.Register or sign in

To apply for a Bush Fire Attack Level assessment, you must be registered with Council's Online Services. Registration can take up to one business day to process. If you are already registered and would like an update on your application please sign in.

Step 2.Gather information

To check whether your property is bush fire prone:

When submitting your request for an assessment, you'll need to upload site plans, drawn to a suitable scale, that clearly show the location of proposed buildings or works, as well as setback distances from all allotment boundaries.

Step 3.Apply

A BAL Assessment is required before Council can issue a BAL Certificate for your property. You will be charged a fee upon application, which covers the assessment and the certificate.
