Expressions of interest are now open for Hunter Region artists to design and install artworks that will engage and delight children between the ages of 0-10 years, in three Lake Mac Libraries.

Council’s Manager Arts, Culture and Tourism Jacqui Hemsley said this is an exciting opportunity for artists to help inspire children and inject creativity into libraries at Belmont, Charlestown and Toronto.

“We aim to create library spaces where children feel comfortable and safe, enjoy spending time and promote positive literacy experiences,” Ms Hemsley said.

“These artworks are part of our vision to create contemporary places where people can meet, acquire knowledge, share inspiring experiences and grasp new opportunities.”

Artists are invited to submit one design per library to be assessed by a selection panel for its relevance to the audience, quality of visual representation, ability to create a sense of place and community identity, and how the design will enhance the library.

A commission of up to $3,000 per library is available. Artworks are to be installed by Thursday 17 October 2019.

Expressions of interest can be submitted online. Applications close Monday 2 September 2019.
